Read My Lips is the fourteenth album by singer Melba Moore, released in 1985. This album featured the hit title track and "When You Love Me Like This". The title track later won Moore a fourth Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, making her just the third black artist after Donna Summer and Michael Jackson to be nominated in the rock category.

About this Edition:
Liner notes snippet below: In the middle of 80s everybody was going through that transition, which really changed the dynamic of Soul music.
This meshing of "feels" and styles is apparent from the get-go on the album's namesake and first single, "Read My Lips." The driving number not only reached #12 on Billboard's R&B chart, but also garnered Miss Moore a Grammy nomination - her fourth - in the Best Female Rock category. Producer Keith Diamond (now deceased) played live drums over his drum programming, while Eddie Martinez contributed the "rock guitar." Keith produced seven of the album's nine cuts (five of which he wrote or co-wrote), including the follow-up single releases, "When You Love Me Like This" (featuring Lillo Thomas) and "I Can't Believe It (It's Over)."
"He demonstrated great acumen for music: both the song and how it should be delivered," remembers Zack. "Not unlike Kashif, who also played instruments, Keith was more into directing people on the particular way a song should be done. So, he got great musicians to work with him, and his communication skills got the best out of all of them. He also brought a different set of international musicians to the mix whom we might not have known otherwise."

Review:
The most versatile and underrated item in Moore's often overlooked catalog, Read My Lips runs the gamut from funky R&B radio numbers to quietly passionate ballads to rock-stenciled up-tempo fare. Moore packs a tight-lipped, defiant punch on kinetic affairs such as "Mind Over Matter" and "Winner." Meanwhile, she's pure and sultry on the slow burn of "To Those Who Wait" and the emotional intensity of "I Can't Believe It (It's Over)." Having plenty of able assistance on hand doesn't hurt her case, either: producers Keith Diamond and Paul Laurence bring a meld of jazz, funk, pop, and soul influences to the fold, and intertwine them with remarkable consistency. This resourceful approach results in material that far surpasses earlier hits like "Love's Comin' at Ya" and "Keepin' My Lover Satisfied"; and it also turns out a surprising remake of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams." With arrangements that are always on the dot, solid songs, and stellar vocals, Read My Lips is a must for every Moore fan's collection.
